An emerging leader in space innovation

McMaster Engineering is actively ramping up its coordination of researchers, facilities and partnerships to enhance its capacity for growth and innovation in support of the Canadian space sector. We are collaborating with public and private sector partners including the Canadian Space Agency, NASA and MDA to develop new programs to support research and talent development in strategic areas.

In 2023, McMaster Engineering researcher Andrew Gadsden and his graduate students (pictured) worked with NASA to build an autonomous, robotic telescope mount to help create more accurate climate change models.

Co-op and talent development

McMaster Engineering offers the second largest engineering co-op program in Ontario and third largest program in Canada. Student-led clubs, groups and teams provide additional experiential learning opportunities that contribute to the social and professional development of our students as well as their academic success.

One of several student groups focused on projects directly related to the space sector is the McMaster Interdisciplinary Satellite Team that led design, planning and fabrication of the NEUDOSE CubeSat, successfully launched in March 2023.
