Overview

Dr. Alavi is an Assistant Professor in the Faculty of Engineering, W Booth School of Practice and Technology. She is a Professional Engineer in the Province of Ontario. She has over 15 years of international experience in teaching and applying Electrical Engineering concepts to solve real industrial problems. Her research interest is developing model-based and data-driven approaches to predict and control the behaviour of hybrid systems.

Dr. Alavi is a Professional Engineer in the province of Ontario (P.Eng.).

Dr. Alavi received the B.Sc. degree in Electrical Engineering (Control and Instrumentations) from the K.N. Toosi University of Technology, and the M.Sc. in Electrical Engineering (Micro- and Nano- Electronic Devices) from Sharif University of Technology. She earned her Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering from Nanyang Technological University (NTU), Singapore. She was a recipient of the Singapore International Graduate Award (SINGA) 2010.

In 2015, she joined the Energy Systems Group, Department of Electrical and computer Engineering, University of Toronto, as a Postdoctoral Fellow. Her research interests include model-based, and data driven approaches for diagnosis and prognosis. Marjan has taught several courses in Electrical Engineering in College and University levels including Digital Electronics and Embedded Systems.

She is a professional Engineer in the province of Ontario, Canada. She has several years of industrial experience as an Electrical Engineer. She is the founder of Intelligent Diagnosis Corporations. A start-up company in Canada with the focus of research and innovation.

Dr. Alavi is a member of IEEE Toronto Executive committee since 2016, and has been served as Vice Chair of the IEEE Industrial Applications Society 2015, and as a reviewer of IEEE Transactions on Industrial Electronics since 2012.
