McMaster University’s Faculty of Engineering is embarking on a transformative journey with the launch of its actionable five-year strategic plan. Engineering a Brighter Future positions the Faculty and its people as leaders in advancing engineering for global change in alignment with the university’s strategic direction to create a brighter world.
The strategic plan was developed through a consultative process involving faculty, staff, students, alumni, and members of the Faculty’s Dean’s Advisory Board. More than 200 voices contributed to the plan, which will chart a course for the Faculty to 2029.
“I’m tremendously proud to action a strategy informed by our Faculty’s greatest asset – our people,” says Dean Heather Sheardown. “Engineering a Brighter Future incorporates the best elements of our Faculty with a future-focused lens. I’m excited to unite our Faculty around this path forward.”
Priorities of the new plan include:
- Unparalleled student experience – Our approach is student-centric, prioritizing learners in all we do.
- Innovation with impact – Our novel ideas and applications positively impact lives.
- Extended global reach – Our inclusive global network is strengthened through collaboration and partnership.
- Aligned investments – Our strategic growth in digital and physical resources enable success.
Underscoring these priorities are unwavering values of optimism, purpose, inclusion, resilience and connection.
“This strategic planning process reinforced the impact our Faculty has on shaping individual learners, inspiring communities, and transforming industry,” says Sheardown. “The ripple effects of our work are felt locally and globally.”
