New Faculty Appointments
Department of Computing and Software
Javad (Jake) Dolisanki began his appointment as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Computing and Software on January 1, 2023. Previously, he was a faculty member at TMU, and before that an NSERC post-doctoral fellow at the Institute for Quantum Computing at the University of Waterloo. He completed his PhD in Computer Science with Éric Schost at the Ontario Research Center for Computer Algebra.
Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering
Mohamed Balla Elamien began his appointment as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering on January 1, 2023. He received his BSc (Highest Honors) and MSc degrees in Electrical and Computer Engineering from University of Sharjah in 2015 and 2017, respectively. In 2021, he received his PhD degree from the Department of Electrical and Software Engineering at the University of Calgary. In January 2022, he joined Synopsys as a Senior Analog & Mixed-Signal Circuit Design Engineer. Prior to joining Synopsys, he worked as a Post Doctoral Associate in the Department of Electrical and Software Engineering at the University of Calgary. He is a recipient of Alberta Innovates Graduate Student Award (2020) – Technology category, Alberta Graduate Excellence Scholarship (for two consecutive years 2019 and 2020), and the 2022 Schulich School of Engineering Graduate Student Research Excellence Award. He is the author/co-author of over 30 journal and conference papers, and one book on the design of CMOS transconductors.
Telex Magloire N. Ngatched began his appointment as an Associate Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering on January 1, 2023. He received his BSc and MSc degrees in electronics from the University of Yaoundé, Cameroon, in 1992 and 1993, respectively, the MScEng (Cum Laude) in electronic engineering from the University of Natal, Durban, South Africa, in 2002. He obtained his PhD in electronic engineering from the University of KwaZulu-Natal, Durban, South Africa, in 2006. From July 2006 to December 2007, Telex was with the University of KwaZulu-Natal as Postdoctoral Fellow, and from 2008 to 2012 with the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, University of Manitoba, Canada, as a Research Associate. He joined Memorial University in August 2012, where he was an Associate Professor. His research interests include 5G and 6G enabling technologies, optical wireless communications, hybrid optical wireless and radio frequency communications, artificial intelligence and machine learning for communications, and underwater communications.
Department of Materials Science and Engineering
Bryan Lee began his appointment as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering on January 1, 2023. He obtained his BEng Biosciences in Chemical and Bioengineering from McMaster in 2014 followed by a PhD in Biomedical Engineering at McMaster in 2020. Previously, he was a course developer, sessional instructor, and research engineer within the Department of Materials Science & Engineering (2021 – 2022). His teaching interests include biomaterials, statistics, and sustainability. His research interests are in understanding the cell-biomaterial interface, creation of new biomaterials and the development of new evaluation techniques/methods. Bryan worked as a Research Officer for the Lassonde School of Engineering at York University as well as a Senior Institutional Analyst in York’s Office of Institutional Planning & Analysis under the Office of the Provost (2020-2022). His time at York focused on grant/award writing, development of EDI policies, education on the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs), and benchmarking of institutional performance.
Department of Mechanical Engineering
Shakirudeen Salaudeen began his appointment as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering on September 1, 2022. Before joining McMaster, he was an Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Sustainable Design Engineering of the University of Prince Edward Island. His research focuses on the thermochemical conversion of biomass and waste into high value products including bioenergy, biofuels, chemicals, and materials. He received his bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering at Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Nigeria. His MSc in Mechanical Engineering was obtained at King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals, Saudi Arabia. He received his PhD in 2020 at the University of Guelph, Canada. He previously worked as a postdoctoral fellow and lab manager at the Bio-Renewable Innovation Lab of the University of Guelph.
Ryan Ahmed began his appointment as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering on January 1, 2023. His research area includes smart systems, artificial intelligence and machine learning, energy storage devices, electric and hybrid powertrains, and autonomous systems. Ryan earned his PhD degree in Mechanical Engineering at McMaster University, with focus on Mechatronics and Electric Vehicles control. He also received a Master of Applied Science (MASc) degree from McMaster, with focus on artificial intelligence and fault detection, and an MBA in Finance from the DeGroote School of Business.
Ryan has held several engineering positions at Fortune 500 companies globally such as Samsung America, and Fiat-Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) Canada. He taught several courses on Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics to over 300,000+ students from 160 countries with 11,000+ 5 stars reviews and overall rating of 4.5/5. He is the principal author/co-author of over 33 journal and conference publications and is the co-recipient of two best papers awards at the IEEE Transactions on Industrial Electronics (2018) and at the IEEE Transportation Electrification Conference and Expo (ITEC 2012) in Detroit, MI, USA. He is a Stanford Certified Project Manager (SCPM), certified Professional Engineer (PEng) in Ontario, a member of the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), and a member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE). He was the program Co-Chair at the 2017 IEEE Transportation and Electrification Conference (iTEC’17) in Chicago, IL, USA.
