More than ninety future Engineering, Bachelor of Technology, and Integrated Biomedical Engineering and Health Sciences (iBioMed) students had an immersive experience at Mac Eng during March Break.
They completed exercises in the Integrated Cornerstone Design Projects Studio and iBioMed Studio equipped with cutting-edge technology, sat in on lectures, toured facilities like the iBioMed Wet Lab and Hatch Build Space and completed hands-on challenges involving circuitry and remote-controlled race cars. Throughout the day, participants connected with peers from other high schools interested in engineering at McMaster, got a feel for McMaster’s campus and experienced a typical day in the life of a university student.

“We recognize how significant the decision is when choosing a postsecondary path,” says Mike Pratas, Manager of Engineering Student Recruitment. “Our March Break programming aims to build confidence in students, whether they are still deciding or have already chosen McMaster. We hope they experience firsthand our collaborative, supportive and welcoming learning environment.”
Feedback from participating day-in-the-life high school students was overwhelmingly positive. One participant said, “I thought it was a great event. I enjoyed getting to know my potential future classmates. The teamwork aspect was great!” Another echoed the benefit of the team-bonding experience, saying “The Engineering Design Studio was a great experience in what it’s like to be an engineer.”

Earlier in the week, Black-identifying students participated in Black @ Mac Eng – a session that highlighted the vibrant Black community within the Faculty of Engineering and the range of supports available both within the Faculty and at the university. A panel of current students shared their experiences, including their involvement in clubs, research and co-op opportunities.
March Break is just one of many ways to experience Mac Eng. Future students can connect with current students through The Ambassador Platform and attend May @ Mac – one of the largest open house events of the year – on Saturday, May 10, 2025.
