Overview
Technology is evolving rapidly, and researchers are continuously pushing the boundaries of material performance under extreme conditions. Whether working in aerospace, nuclear energy, advanced manufacturing, or biomedical applications, understanding material behavior across a wide temperature range is crucial.
McMaster Manufacturing Research Institute’s (MMRI) Materials Property Assessment Lab (MPAL) now hosts the MicroMaterials Nano-Test Xtreme platform—the only one of its kind in North America. This advanced system enables nanomechanical testing from -50°C to 1200°C without requiring extensive sample preparation or bulk samples.
This session will introduce the scientific principles and methodologies behind high- and low-temperature nanomechanical testing, with insights into research applications, experimental design, and data interpretation. Attendees will gain an understanding of how these techniques can be integrated into their research projects to advance knowledge in material performance.
