Overview
Dr. Awolayo’s group focuses on advancing fundamental knowledge of important physicochemical processes in environmental and energy subsurface systems and developing scalable, sustainable, and applied solutions to global climate change and challenges encountered at the water-energy-society nexus. Our group couples experimental, theoretical, numerical, and data-driven computational approaches to enhance the understanding of the fate and transport of fluids, and their geochemical reactions in subsurface environmental and energy systems. We explore challenges associated with physicochemical transport in natural and engineered systems and develop diagnostic tools to provide solution across multi-scales, pores to field. Our current work on sustainable energy transitions and climate change mitigation strategies, such as geo-energy (CO2 or hydrogen) storage, nuclear waste disposal, contaminant transport, geothermal energy production, etc. is to ensure that today’s children and future generations can continue to inhabit the Earth in light of the existential threat posed by climate change.
Adedapo Awolayo received his B.Tech. (2010) in Chemical Engineering from Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Nigeria; M.Sc. (2014) in Petroleum Engineering from Khalifa University, U.A.E.; and Ph.D. in Chemical and Petroleum Engineering from University of Calgary (2019). He has worked in diverse roles, including research scientist for Energy and Environmental Research Center (EERC), North Dakota, US; doctoral research scientist for Computer Modelling Group Ltd, Calgary; reservoir engineer for Abu Dhabi National Oil Company – Onshore; and research engineer for Khalifa University, Abu Dhabi, U.A.E. He is a past recipient of the NSERC Postdoctoral Fellowship, Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarship, Killam Doctoral Memorial Scholarship, the SPE Canada regional student paper contest Awards (First Place), etc.
