This course covers recent advances in natural language processing through recently published papers. Topics will include large language model reasoning, prompting, generation and decoding methods, conversational agents, retrieval augmented generation, theory of mind, reinforcement learning with human feedback, explainable/interpretable methods, personalization and perspectivism, bias and harm mitigation, and applications (psycholinguistic, sociolinguistic, and other medical and technology focused areas). Additional topics will be determined by student vote.
