McMaster University’s Faculty of Engineering is a community. It is a family of students, faculty members, staff and alumni.

The fireball is our official symbol and is at the heart of what keeps us together. Learn more about this important symbol of McMaster Engineering pride.

History of our Faculty symbol:
The fireball, symbolizing energy, comes from the Arms of Hamilton College, which had blue and gold whorls with gold flames on a red background. The Faculty of Engineering emerged from Hamilton College in 1958 and adopted a red fireball as its emblem in 1960.

McMaster Engineering Society (MES)

The MES is one of the largest student groups on campus.

The society supports about 20 groups and serves more than 5,000 undergraduate student members.

Students are able to receive funding for various activities such as intramurals, conferences, special projects and more.

Redsuits

The Redsuits at McMaster are student volunteers who promote engineering pride and spirit across campus and in the community.

Their most important job as student reps occurs during Welcome Week, where they handle all the engineering events and help first-year students get used to their new home at McMaster.

They also participate in just about every MES event through the year.

Beyond graduation, our students remain connected through a vast network of Mac Eng alumni that is more than 20,000 members strong.

They continue to be committed to supporting our #FireballFamily by engaging in events and mentorship, and acting as program advisors on our many different committees.
