Various members of our Fireball Family are among those being honoured at this year’s McMaster Alumni Awards for their exceptional impact.
The virtual award ceremony will recognize two alumni, a current student and a professor linked to the Faculty of Engineering for their outstanding contributions to the university community.
Aly Orady, computer engineering ’98, is one of the 2022 inductees to the prestigious Alumni Gallery: the hall of fame of interesting alumni who have made a big impact. On top of two decades in the Silicon Valley, this engineer and entrepreneur is the founder and CEO of Tonal: an in-home smart gym company that has relationships with superstar athletes like Serena Williams, Lebron James and Steph Curry.
You can read more about Orady’s journey, his company and approach to leadership in Orady’s inductee article.
Alumna Salma Hindy, electrical and biomedical engineering ’15, is also being recognized. She is a recipient of the McMaster Alumni Association’s Arch Award, which recognizes recent graduates for their unique and interesting contributions to society, their local community, and to McMaster University.
This hilarious stand-up comedian recently joined the writers’ room for an upcoming Amazon animated series created by Ramy Youssef. You can read more about her rise in the industry and representation of Muslim women on Hindy’s Arch Award profile.
Meanwhile, a current engineering student is also being celebrated for her dedication. Angel Cai, a fourth-year student in the iBioMed program, is one of the 2022 Albert Lager Prize for Student Initiative Recipients.
Cai has contributed greatly to the community: she has served as co-president of Collegiate DECA Canada, co-chair of the McMaster Engineering competition, vice-president of finance with the iBioMed Society, co-president of McMaster Youth for Asia, and more.

Honours also extend to professors in our community. While Zobia Jawed is being recognized as an alumna of the Faculty of Science, she is also the Faculty of Engineering’s lead for design projects, an assistant professor and researcher.
Jawed will receive the McMaster Alumni Association’s Hamilton Community Impact Award.
