Program change & transfer requests

This information is for McMaster students in another program who are interested in transferring to the first year of the Computer Science program (CS 1). 

Deadlines

Applications for Fall admission will open in April. Internal transfer is only permitted for the Fall term. 

Process

If you are currently registered in another McMaster program, you can apply for an internal transfer in April. 

You must fill out the transfer into the Faculty of Engineering form and send it in to engadmin@mcmaster.ca  no earlier than April 1. We encourage you to submit your application by May 1

Applications will be accepted throughout spring/summer until space is filled.

Requirements

The Computer Science 1 program can only accept a limited number of students each year. Applications will only be assessed if all the requirements for your desired program transfer have been completed by the end of the Winter term. 

To be considered, you must meet the following criteria. 

  • You must have completed a minimum of 18 units during the Fall and Winter semesters (September to April). 
  • Your cumulative GPA must be a minimum of 9.0 (B+) to be eligible to apply,  which will include all credits completed to date. Attainment of a cumulative GPA of 9 does not guarantee internal transfer. 
  • If you have completed the equivalent of the Computer Science 1 program, you must apply for consideration to transfer into second year (Honours Computer Science) using the same form, indicate level 2. 

You must have completed the following courses: 

  • Ontario High School English (ENG4U, or the equivalent) 
  • Ontario High School Calculus and Vectors (MCV4U, or the equivalent) 
  • We will accept McMaster’s Math 1F03. 
  • Two of: SBI4U, SCH4U, SPH4U, SES4U, ICS4U or TEJ4M 

High School math courses can be completed at McMaster or through an online virtual High School: 

Any student choosing this option or any coursework completed outside of McMaster on a Letter of Permission (LOP) must submit an official transcript to the Faculty Office by the end of April via email to engserv@mcmaster.ca  

Transfer credits

If your transfer to Computer Science 1 is accepted, your transcript will be reviewed for eligible transfer credits. 

This information is for McMaster students in another program who are interested in transferring to the second year of the Honours Computer Science program (CS 2).

  • You must have completed the following 21 units for eligibility into Level 2: 
  • MATH 1B03 or MATH 1ZC3 
  • MATH 1ZA3
  • MATH 1ZB3
  • COMPSCI 1MD3
  • COMPSCI 1JC3 
  • COMPSCI 1XC3 
  • COMPSCI 1DM3 

Upon acceptance, you will be required to complete the outstanding COMPSCI 1XD3 course while in Level 2 Honours Computer Science.  

Transfer credits

If your transfer to Computer Science 2 is accepted, your transcript will be reviewed for eligible transfer credits.  

This information is for McMaster students in another program who are interested in transferring to the first year of the Bachelor of Technology program (BTech 1), or students in a BTech 1 program (Automation, Automotive & Vehicle, or Biotechnology) who are interested in transferring to a different BTech 1 program. 

Deadlines

Internal transfer is only permitted for the Fall term. Applications for Fall admission will open on April 1. We encourage you to submit your application by May 1. Consideration is subject to space after the encouraged deadline.

The Bachelor of Technology I programs can only accept a limited number of students each year. Applications will only be assessed if all the requirements for your desired program transfer have been completed by the end of the Winter term. 

To be considered, you must meet the following criteria.

  • Your cumulative GPA must be in good standing, which will include all credits completed to date. Attainment of a cumulative GPA in good standing does not guarantee internal transfer. 
  • If you have completed any equivalent courses to the Bachelor of Technology program, these will be assessed for transfer credit upon review of your application.  

You must have completed the following courses: 

  • Ontario High School English (ENG4U, or the equivalent) 
  • Ontario High School Calculus and Vectors (MCV4U, or the equivalent) 
  • We will accept McMaster’s Math 1F03. 
  • Ontario High School Chemistry (SCH4U)

Transfer Credits will be given for courses completed with a minimum grade of C-, that are equivalent to courses in the B.Tech program. You will be required to complete any outstanding program requirements of the Bachelor of Technology I program in Fall/Winter and/or in Spring/Summer.

This information is for McMaster students interested in transferring to a Level 2 Bachelor of Technology program, or students who want to transfer within the Bachelor of Technology program (Automation, Automotive & Vehicle, or Biotechnology). 

Please note: McMaster students in another program interested in transferring to the second year of the Bachelor of Technology program will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis and must meet the requirements for an internal transfer to BTech 1.

This information is for McMaster students interested in transferring to or within a Bachelor of Technology Degree Completion (DCP) program (Civil, Manufacturing, Power and Energy, and Software)

Please note: McMaster Students in another program that are interested in transferring to the degree completion program must hold an advanced technology diploma (3 year) or equivalent in a related technology field to be considered for internal transfer.

  • If you are currently in the Bachelor of Technology DCP, you must have completed a minimum of 6 units in your first semester of your admitted program.
  • Your cumulative GPA must be in good standing, which will include all credits completed to date. Attainment of a cumulative GPA in good standing does not guarantee internal transfer. 

Transfer credits

If your transfer to a Bachelor of Technology Degree Completion program is accepted, your transcript will be reviewed for eligible transfer credits.

This information is for McMaster students in another program who are interested in transferring to the first year of the Engineering program. 

Please note: Student transferring to Engineering must apply to Level 1. Requirements to proceed into Level 2 cannot be done through other McMaster faculties, apart from the Integrated Biomedical Engineering and Health Sciences (iBioMed) program.

  • Your cumulative GPA must be in good standing which will include all credits completed to date. Attainment of a cumulative GPA in good standing does not guarantee internal transfer. 
  • If you have completed any equivalent courses to the Engineering 1 program, these will be assessed for transfer credit upon review of your application.  

You must have completed the following courses:

This information is for current McMaster students in another program who are interested in transferring to the first year of the Integrated Biomedical Engineering and Health Sciences (iBioMed) program, IBEHS 1. Students who have completed Engineering 1 should refer to the Level 2 transfer section.

Process

Current undergraduate students must fill out the transfer into the Integrated Biomedical Engineering and Health Sciences form and send it in to engadmin@mcmaster.ca following the deadlines outlined above.   

Requirements

The iBioMed program can only accept a limited number of students each year in to IBEHS 1. Applications will only be assessed if all the requirements for your desired program transfer have been completed by the end of the Winter term. 

To be considered, you must meet the following criteria. 

  • You must have completed a minimum of 18 units during the Fall and Winter semesters (September to April). 
  • Your cumulative GPA must be a minimum of 10 (A-) which will include all credits completed to date. Attainment of a cumulative GPA of 10 does not guarantee internal transfer. 
  • If you have completed any equivalent courses to the iBioMed program, these will be assessed for transfer credit upon review of your application.  

You must have completed the following courses: 

  • Ontario High School English (ENG4U, or the equivalent) 
  • Ontario High School Calculus and Vectors (MCV4U, or the equivalent) 
  • Ontario High School Biology (SBI4U) 
  • Ontario High School Chemistry (SCH4U) 
  • Ontario High School Physics (SPH4U)

This information is for McMaster Engineering students interested in transferring to a Level 2 Integrated Biomedical Engineering and Health Sciences (iBioMed) program.

iBioMed Level 2 programs can only accept a limited number of students each year. Applications will only be assessed if all the requirements for your desired program transfer have been completed by the end of the Spring/Summer term. 

To be considered, you must meet the following criteria. 

  • You must have completed a minimum of 18 units during the Fall and Winter semesters (September to April). 
  • Your cumulative GPA must be a minimum of 10 (A-) which will include all credits completed to date. Attainment of a cumulative GPA of 10 does not guarantee internal transfer. 
  • You must have completed the following 31 units for eligibility into Level 2: 
  • CHEM 1E03 
  • ENGINEER 1P13 
  • MATH 1ZA3, 1ZB3, 1ZC3 
  • PHYSICS 1D03, 1E03 

Upon acceptance, you will be required to complete the outstanding IBEHS 1EP6 course while in iBioMed Level 2. 

Transfer credits

If your transfer to iBioMed Level 2 is accepted, your transcript will be reviewed for eligible transfer credits.

Consideration for transfer is subject to the departments and is not guaranteed.

If your transfer is accepted, your transcript will be reviewed for eligible transfer credits.
