Abstract

The next generation of wireless networks, also known as Beyond 5G (B5G) and 6G, will be AI-native need and with very high automation level.

Increased complexity along with the availability of abundant and meaningful data prompted the advancement of Machine Learning (ML) algorithms with strong inference and decision-making capabilities for the current networks. Today, predictive analytics and intelligent control algorithms allow for turning the knobs in optimizing system parameters.

Reinforcement-learning and deep reinforcement-learning algorithms have shown great success to this end. In this talk, we will provide an overview of the state-of-art ML algorithms used in 5G networks and 6G research and we will look into the challenges in the AI-native operations in B5G and 6G.

Speaker details

Prof. Erol-Kantarci is a highly cited researcher and an influential industry leader in AI in telecom. She is the Chief Cloud RAN AI\ML Data Scientist at Ericsson, the Canada Research Chair in AI-enabled Next-Generation Wireless Networks, and Full Professor at the University of Ottawa, Canada. Throughout her 15+ years career in communications, she has received numerous awards and recognitions. She is the co-editor of three books on smart grids, smart cities and intelligent transportation. She has over 200+ peer-reviewed publications with over 8000 citations, and she has given 70+ keynotes, plenary talks and tutorials around the globe. She is also the Vice-chair of IEEE ComSoc emerging technologies initiative on Machine Learning for Communications. She was an IEEE ComSoc Distinguished Lecturer between 2021 and 2023.
