Expectations
Donning the Flare the Fireball Mascot comes with the following expectations:
- Flare does not talk. The character expresses emotions through gestures and movement. Good animations include waving your whole arm, wiggling your fingers, throwing kisses, pointing and giggling, high fives, fist bumps. Only hug someone if they ask.
- You must have someone with you at all times (referenced as a Minder moving forward). Do not remove any part of the costume in public. Please be professional and keep the integrity of the mascot. Get assistance with putting on and removing the costume.
- SAFETY: LIMIT THE TIME. Your Minder should be with you at all times to monitor the time and check in with your well-being. Take breaks as needed. Minder to check in every 15-20 minutes. Max wear time is one hour.
- Stay hydrated, especially on hot days.
- Alcohol is not to be consumed before or during your time as the mascot or minder.
- Wear cool cotton clothes (like a singlet and boxer shorts/bike pants), clean socks in the shoes. Ensure all components of the costume are collected and stored back in the carry bag.
- Have a pre-planned safety action if the mascot wearer needs to be taken to the change room (i.e. squeeze the minder’s arm)
- Do not attempt to wash the Mascot. Return as is and inform the Comms Team of the dirt.
- Please be aware when in the Mascot your vision WILL be limited. The Minder needs to be mindful of this and guide the Mascot around keeping stairs and obstacles at bay.
- Most of all, enjoy yourself! It really is a lot of fun.
Liability
PARTICIPANT PLEASE READ AND SIGN IN AGREEMENT THE MASCOT CAN BE ASSOCIATED WITH SOME RISKS. IF YOU PARTICIPATE, YOU DO SO AT YOUR OWN RISK. PLEASE READ THESE TERMS & CONDITIONS AND THE EXPECTATIONS CAREFULLY. IF YOU DO NOT UNDERSTAND ITS CONTENTS OR YOU DO NOT AGREE TO ANY OF THE CONDITIONS PLEASE DO NOT VOLUNTEER TO UNDERTAKE THIS ACTIVITY.
1. I understand that this activity has risks associated including, but not limited to, overheating, dehydration, fainting, disorientation, claustrophobia and a variety of possible injuries. I agree to assume all risks in participating in wearing the Mascot. I/the Participant wish to participate and voluntarily assume the risk of impacting my well-being or bodily harm.
2. I hereby release and indemnify The Faculty of Engineering, McMaster University, its servants, agents and any other persons involved in the coordination of activities associated with the Mascot from all legal actions or claims for compensation arising from my/the Participant’s involvement in activities associated with the Mascot resulting in injury to persons or property.
3. I acknowledge that this document is contractual and may be relied upon in any proceedings by me, my heirs, executors and assigns, and this waiver release and indemnity is given in consideration of The Faculty of Engineering, McMaster University permitting me/the Participant to participate in wearing the Mascot.
4. I agree to comply with the expectations outlined above this form provided to me/the Participant by The Faculty of Engineering, McMaster University relating to my/the Participant’s involvement in any activity. I agree to indemnify The Faculty of Engineering, McMaster University, its servants and agents and the owner of the premises against all liability that may incur, including legal costs, caused by my negligence or failure to comply with such instructions.
5. I warrant that I/the Participant do not suffer from any medical condition that may affect my ability to participate safely in this activity.
6. The Faculty of Engineering, McMaster University may photograph the Mascot and I consent to the usage of these promotional images and I waive any claim I may otherwise have in respect of their usage.
