My research focuses on developing efficient algorithms, data structures, and software tools for data compression, information retrieval, studying biological sequences, and secure network design.
I am an Assistant Professor in the Department of Computing and Software, McMaster University. Prior to this role, I was a post doctoral fellow/visiting researcher working with Professors Ridha Khedri and Bill Smyth, and a sessional faculty in the same department. I completed my PhD in Computer Science in August 2016, from McMaster University under the supervision of Professor Michael Soltys. I have a Master’s degree in Engineering Science from Louisiana State University, USA, and a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University Hyderabad, India.
The ever increasing use of data and the need to process it to extract meaningful information has made the development of efficient algorithms for string processing all the more relevant. This course will cover string processing algorithms for exact and approximate pattern matching, computing string regularities, string indexing, string sorting and compression. Different string generalizations such as partial words and indeterminate/degenerate strings will be covered. String data structures such as suffix trees, suffix arrays and Burrows-Wheeler transform will also be studied. Applications to research areas such as bioinformatics and data analysis will be highlighted.
