Overview

Shelir Ebrahimi is a UBC graduate and a former NSERC postdoctoral fellow in the field of Chemical-Environmental Engineering. Her research has focused on developing new physical, chemical, and biological methods for water and wastewater treatment. She has also worked on the investigation of the presence and removal of microplastics in drinking water treatment plants.

Besides her research, Shelir dedicated herself to engineering education. During her PhD she was awarded two prestige TA awards and a scholarship in teaching in higher education. Shelir was named “2016-Rising Star” of UBC, due to her contributions to teaching and engineering education. After having years of teaching experiences at the University of British Columbia, University of Toronto, and University of Guelph, In July 2019, Shelir joined McMaster in a teaching stream position between Chemical Engineering Department and Engineering 1 program.

I am a Chemical- Environmental Engineer with several educational backgrounds. My great passion for engineering education has brought me to the path so I can dedicate myself to develop and practice new teaching and learning strategies. I did my PhD at the University of British Columbia and I was very much honored to be awarded two TA wards and be named “2016-Rising Star” of UBC, due to my contributions to teaching and engineering education. After a year of teaching experience at UBC, I joined Drinking Water Research Group at the University of Toronto to pursue my research as an NSERC postdoctoral fellow while being active in Engineering Education research. Before joining McMaster in July 2019, I was a full-time instructor at the University of Guelph.

More than teaching several undergrad and grad courses, I conduct research in the field of Environmental Engineering especially water treatment processes.

Besides my academic activities, I am a yogi and a runner. I also enjoy playing my instrument (Tar- Persian string instrument).
