Dr. Carol Walker Bassim

Overview

Carol Bassim is a materials engineer (BS and MS in Materials Science and Engineering, 2000 from the University of Florida, USA) and a dental and oral health researcher. She graduated Dental School in 2004, and then spent several years with the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Washington DC as a Clinical Research Fellow (2004-2007), and next as a Research Fellow of the NIDCR (National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research) of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) (2007-2009).

In 2010, Carol became a Staff Scientist with the Clinical Center of the NIH (2010-2015), and attained a MHS from Duke University in 2013 in Clinical Research. She became the Deputy Director, Division of Oral Health, of the Indian Health Service in Washington, DC, acting as the national Health Promotion and Disease Prevention Coordinator, in 2015.

From 2016, Carol was involved with the Canadian Longitudinal Study on Aging (CLSA) with a focus on the management and knowledge translation of CLSA data (such as imaging and functional measures data) as an Assistant Professor with HEI at McMaster.

Carol is an editor for the Journal of the American Geriatrics Society and a member of the mineralized tissue group of the International Association of Dental Research (IADR). She will be focused on working with the Integrated Biomedical Engineering and Health Sciences (iBioMed) program.
